In 1879, our great-grandfather bought the 80-acre farm. Native pecan trees were growing here at the time. Over the years our family farmed the land doing very little with the pecan trees. In 1960, we purchased the farm from our Aunts. In 1987, while clearing the pasture we noticed many young pecan trees growing alongside some brush. We kept some of these trees and decided to go to a grafting school here in Paola. Not being familiar with grafting trees, it sounded very interesting. We completed the grafting course and left with the scion wood to make the grafts. We began grafting trees and continued to graft more and more each year. We planted another 40 acres of pecan trees over the last few years which we have grafted to the improved varieties as well. Today we have a shaker that clamps to the tree trunk and shakes the nuts to the ground, a harvester to gather the nuts, a cleaner to separate the nuts from the trash, and several commercial crackers to crack them.
We sell whole or cracked pecans and halves, and black
walnut meats at the farm or online. We have the big Pawnee and Kanza varieties!
Kansas Pecans are simply DELICIOUS!!
